On September 18, 2025, over 1,000 volunteers joined forces for Washington County’s biggest annual community service effort — Day of Caring! Together with local businesses and sponsors, volunteers supported seniors, veterans, and neighbors in need, while uplifting nonprofits across our community. One day, countless acts of kindness. Our local team from the Washington County Board of Elections joined the effort, making a significant impact in the life of one community member highlighting the spirit of Day of Caring—neighbors helping neighbors to create lasting, positive change.

Members of the Board of Elections staff visited Smithsburg High School for a voting demonstration. Students learned about the voting process for Washington County. They were able to participate in a mock election and experience what a voter experiences on election day! Every student who participated was able to vote a ballot, cast their ballot in the scanning unit, and see the results for their class within minutes!
